Oscar Make-Good
Seriously? James Earl Jones did not have an Oscar? How did the Academy miss that?
The 80 year old stage and screen veteran whose distinctive baritone and bulky frame has made him a perfect fit for many military roles has been the world-famous voice of Darth Vader (original Star Wars) and Mufasa (Lion King). How does HE not have an Oscar? It seems that Academy is suitably embarrassed by this slip and is giving the distinguished Actor an honorary Oscar in the 2011 Awards.
The Actor was told Reuters that he was especially delighted about the Award for which he did not have to fight. ‘…it's an honorary, which means I didn't have to fight for it. I probably did things for it along the line, along the way but I didn't have to compete for it. I didn't have to hope somebody else lost so I could win. That's the uncomfortable part of awards, somebody has to lose"
Among his classic roles are the part of Alex Haley (Roots series), King of Zamunda and father of Eddie Murphy (Coming to America).
